Malaya Filipino American Dance Company

A digital home worthy of a company preserving Philippine dance for a new generation.

Founded in 2012 in Los Angeles, Malaya Filipino American Dance Company is a performing arts ensemble of dancers, musicians, and artists dedicated to preserving and reinterpreting traditional Philippine folk dance. Guided by extensive field research and study under master practitioners in the Philippines, the company has premiered rarely-seen traditional works on American stages — including original stagings of Pangalay and the story of the Maranao Onor — and has been featured at festivals from FPAC to REDCAT.

Malaya came to me needing a website that could carry the weight of that history while still feeling alive — a home base for a company that spends most of its life on stage, not behind a screen. I led the redesign end to end, translating the company’s identity into a clean, image-forward site that puts the dancing itself front and center: performance photography, company history, and artist bios given room to breathe, alongside the practical pages — shows, workshops, booking — that keep the organization running.

The result is a site that feels as considered as the choreography it represents: easy for the company to update between performances, and easy for new audiences to understand exactly what Malaya is and why its work matters.
